Hey Black Child do you know who I am?

As I was thinking about how I wanted to word this post, I thought about the video that has been circulating on the Internet with a cute little girl reciting Maya Angelou’s Poem “Hey Black Child.”  A link this video:  Click here.

The more I read, study, and apply the word to my life, I found myself asking the question “Who am I?”  Before I would describe myself as a wife, mother of 2 handsome boys, beautiful, and intelligent. As God began to open my spiritual eyes, this question took on an entirely different meaning. His response was simply, “I am!”  Every time I pray, I ask God to use me however he sees fit, because I am his willing vessel.  Once you have a true encounter with God, you change.  You don’t want to go back to that “struggle” lifestyle that you had before.  The more I learn, the more my faith has grown.

Hebrews 11:1 “Faith is assurance of things hoped for”

When you go back and study the chosen people of God, the Israelites, time and time again you will see how they fell short of his glory by turning their backs on God.  Allowing others to influence them and eventually they forget who they are.  This made me want a deeper understanding of who I really am.  If you read the book of Deuteronomy chapters 27-29.  God made it very clear of his expectations of his people.  Because we are a rebellious people, we have brought generational cursing on ourselves.  God never intended for his people to be weak-minded.  He intended for us to be leaders and not followers.

Deuteronomy 28:9-10 “The Lord shall establish thee a holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways,  ALL PEOPLE OF THE EARTH SHALL SEE THAT THOU ART CALLED BY THE NAME OF THE LORD, AND THEY SHALL BE AFRAID OF THEE.”

God lives within us, so when he says I am, we have all the power we need within us to make mountains move.  Before my spiritual eyes were awakened, I thought about mountains as real, physical, rocky mountains literally.  But, he means we have the power to speak to any weapon that is formed against us and tell IT SHALL NOT PROSPER.  Romans 8:31 “If God is for us, who can ever be against us?”  He has given us all power and authority over this Earth.  If you think about it, If everyone had this mentality, and we all ban together, think of how powerful we would be.  All these materialistic things we are chasing after, does not matter.  You will not be able to take any of that with you when you die, so why are we making those our idols?  Why are we so envious of what others have?  God has already promised us if we seek him first that he will supply our every need and he will give us the desires of our heart.  Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”  So why are you still struggling?  That unhappy feeling that you have, that is God wanting to fill you up with his power.  Rise up oh Holy Nation, Rise up because it is time.

We have the power to speak life over any dead situation.  We have the power to open doors that weren’t even there to open. Why?? Because 1 John 4:4 tells us “Greater is he that is in you, than he is in the world!”  Knowledge is power.  Time to fall on our face and get in his word because we are running out of time.  “Wherefore, as I live, saith the Lord God; Surely, because thou hast defiled my sactuary with all thy detestable things, and with all thine abominations, therefore will I also diminish thee, neither shall mine eye spare, neither will I have any pity”  -Ezekiel 5:11

So, hey black child, do you know do you really, really know… “Who am I?”

I am set above all other nations.   I am Royalty.  I am a queen in God’s kingdom.  I am a part of a holy nation.  I am starting a legacy.  I am a generational curse breaker.  I am liberated.  I am powerful.  I am unshaken.  I am living on God’s promises.  I am born again.  I am set free.  I am brand new.  I am the God that dwells within me.  I am….

WAKE UP!!

1 Peter 2:1-2

“Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speaking, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.”

“But God is raising up men who really get it.  We got the same haircuts, same clothes, but trust me baby girl something’s different”.—  Lyrics from Royalty by Mali Music

I recently watched the movie Birth of a Nation, and it made me think about how my people, and by my people I’m talking about the African American community, are lost.  In the movie, the slave masters had the young black preacher go around quoting the verse 1 Peter 2:18 “Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the forward.”  (Froward means habitually disposed to disobedience and opposition according to Webster’s Dictionary).  This one scripture was used to obscure our Black Ancestors’ thinking forcing them to submit.  The preacher was one of few slaves that was fortunate to be able to read back in those days.  We all know knowledge is power.  It’s no secret that they have tried to keep our people oppressed through slavery, lynching, mass incarceration, blinding us from realizing who we are.

Now after studying 1 Peter 2nd chapter in its entirety, it takes on a totally different meaning.  The scripture goes on to say in the next verse “For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.”  Throughout the Bible there are different verses, such as this one that states that God’s people will have to suffer in this lifetime because of who we are.  As the saying goes, “If you don’t have any haters, you must not be doing something right.”  Once you decide to live in your purpose, the enemy will try to test you and come at you from every direction.  1 Peter 2:15-16 states, “For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.  As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness; but as the servants of God.”  Those slave owners used the word of God for their own malicious acts.  Racism has been the background to our loosing sense of self.  Who are we?  Where do we come from?  Generation after generation of being lost, breaking down our black men, kidnapping our women and children, killing each other, racial profiling/targeting black men and women, and breaking up our black families, when will we wake up?  1 Peter 2:25 says “For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepard and Bishop of your souls.”  When I read this verse, I think about how God promised the Israelites the promise land and had Moses lead his people out of Egypt, but because his people bickered and complained, they were lost, wandering in the wilderness for 40 years.  Fast forward to today…Our people are still lost.  Still being blinded by the evil agenda that was set forth for our people hundreds of years ago.  An agenda that has clouded the minds of our people and passed from one generation to the next.  Who are we?

Before I go on, I want to point out that some of our people are claiming to be “woke” or “conscience” to the truth.  I’m glad our generation is starting to research and figure out who they are, and where they come from.  But I’m tired of hearing that Jesus is the “white man’s God.”  The Jesus Christ that I have come to know and love is VERY real!  How can you believe in God but not his son?  There is only one way to God and that is through his son.  The Bible warns us and tells us to beware of false prophets.  These so called prophets are those that twist God’s word to spread their own agendas.  All the great prophets of the Bible have told a story of God sending his only son to save ALL men.  Emanuel, Son of Man, Son of God, JESUS….There is power in that name.  The only agenda should be God’s unchanging word.

With that being said, God is calling his people.  All the different denominations, and religions, do not matter.  God is calling for 1 nation, 1 people, no matter what race or creed you belong to.  1 Peter 2: 5-6 “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.  Wherefore also, it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious, and he that believeth on him, shall not be confounded.”  The scripture also says in Philippians 2:10 “That at the name of Jesus, Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess.”

It is time our people realized their full potential.  Time for us to raise up 1 true nation of God.  1 Peter 2:9 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show darkness into his marvelous light.”  the time is now.  Time to be uncomfortable with the word.  We are the truth tellers, the messengers, the Royal Priesthood God is calling for.  Rise up my people.  Wake up my people.  WE are the chosen generation.  We are the Anomaly!

Time to get uncomfortable with the word.  This may cause you to lose friends, and family may turn their backs on you…but they will want some of what you have.  We are the outcasts.  The generation that dares to be different.  The people that doesn’t mind telling the truth.  Remember, only God can judge us.  Remember at the end of the battle, we win.  Get ready to sacrifice to reap your eternal reward.  Our mission is bigger than ourselves.  WE are GOD’S ARMY.  Either join or perish.  The choice is yours.
